Just looking for everyones favorite, OR coast kite spots. What time of year do things start to pick up?? I have heard Whiskey Run is unreal. How about Pistol River and Cape Sabastian??? I am trying to decide where to go in June.
Thanks. |

Sounds like you are thinking Southern Coast? SC generally seems to be more windy more of the time. Pistol River is windiest of them all, windy when everywhere else is dead.
I'd recommend if you have a few days go camping at Floras Lake. You can ride the lake in the mornings and at dusk (when its least gusty), and do downwinders at Whiskey Run in the afternoons (only about 35 minute drive away.) Some guys even ride the ocean side at Floras, but the shorebreak can be super gnar gnar.

Try a 15 mile down winder from Ft. Stevens to your own palace right off the bluff in Seaside!

Yeah I'd say if your not too confident about it staying out of the waves at Floras is a good idea, hell even the waves at Whiskey Run can get pretty intimidating. Best thing is to do downwinders and then you can stick to the smaller waves.
8-12 is a good bet for Southern Coast, although sometimes it can be light (16m.) I spent most of my time last time at Floras on my 12m, but also a couple sessions on my 16m, and then one at Whiskey run on my 7m! So its always a tough call for a two kite quiver. |

The Oregon coast is littered with epic kiting spots- My favorites would have to be Florence and Whiskey Run. Also check out Clatsop Spit, Manzanita, Newport, and Sunset Beach |

the waves are not so bad in the summer. They are much more forgiving than the 18-20 foot like today. Newport is a great area and whiskey, floras lake can not be beat for all around day nite accomodations. bring supplys closest food ect 20 miles. good luck. |
