We went to 2 spots on Bali. Amed is on the NE corner of the island about 3-4 hours from DPS. It's mostly about scuba/snorkeling/fishing. Good spot to stop and see monkeys right off the road on the way. Great food and prices.
After Amed we took a 45 minute plane ride to Lombok and stayed in Kuta which they say is like Kuta Bali 20 years ago. South Lombok is know for white sandy beaches but know that Kuta's main beach is not really for swimming Favorite beach was Tanjung Aan. $6 surf board rentals on the beach which include boat ride and umbrella with loungers. Well attended break but fun crowd and a good vibe. Muslim vs. Hindu so calls to prayer starting at 4:45am and hijabs everywhere. East winds we're cranking but there are no shops or rentals near Kuta....the main Kite area is to the east.
Then we were back to Sanur, Bali. Nice big beach, light wind spot. Smallest anyone packs is 12M, with lot's of 14's and 17's, foils, wings, etc. I got out to the break with a 17M but couldn't really ride waves without losing power. When the wind drops the surf at "Baby reef" was all you can eat juicy lefts on the SUP surf. Rip Curl is the main place for rentals. Talk to Johnny.
