Remember to support the fire fighting efforts: if you see planes or helicopters scooping water from the river at your chosen launch, go somewhere else.

This topic reached a high point recently with people wind sporting in the vicinity of Rock Creek (Mosier) during the recent Microwave Tower fire fighting efforts. A helicopter could not inhale water at its preferred location and had to go to a less optimum spot. Earlier during the fire, the fixed wing scoopers expressed some concern regarding the ssame area, although it was not as close as the helicopter. A Mosier city official reached out to Temira to encourage people to avoid the area while active fire fighting was taking place. Soon after she first mentioned on her blog, the wind sport traffic dropped off dramatically around that area. I can observe it from my house. But, the concern was great enough to raise it with the Coast Guard who have hinted they may need to take action and invoke restrictions on water activity in the future. We don't want that.
