Local news is reporting an accident on the bridge where there may have been some damage to the bridge itself. Its def closed for the day, not sure how long after that.

Just putting it out there since we are coming up on a big travel week, and for the community to have info to plan.

I was headed over to HR around 2pm. Port guys standing at the barricades said 2 hours or three days, we don’t know.

They said an excavator crossing the bridge hit uprights and engineers were getting involved in assessing the damage.

I didn’t want to go over there anyway….

Port is adjourning a special meeting on Sunday morning at 10 AM. I'm not certain if the public is invited to comment or participate but it can be viewed via live stream here: https://portofhoodriver.com/live-stream

I didn't make the meeting in time, but my neighbor said they are planning to open the bridge to cars and motorcycles only, temporarily for the holiday. Can someone who attended confirm the outcome?

Thanks 😊

Sounded like they are shooting to reopen the bridge asap, limited to cars. Discussion of how to use port staff or hired security people to prevent commercial truck traffic.

So, cars only, and maybe today as early as 1pm.

Construction guys are getting final drawings and starting to source and fabricate parts for repair work starting after the holiday. Work will be night shifts with night closures. Not sure if that’s total closure or floggers at night.

2pm today.

Updates on port of HR site

Thanks. One poor Port employee standing on the WA side bored out of his skull on my way back from Rufalo.

For those out of town, the Hood River bridge has been opened for passenger cars (and yes, your super-tall extended-length Sprinter van is included), but will be closing at night for repairs from 7 PM-7 AM starting on Monday, July 8 and continuing until (tentatively) July 21, whereupon a re-evaluation will occur.

In other news... KB4C needs wind!!!
