What do kitefoilers think of slingshot’s ‘safe-t-winglets?’
Do they really lower the risks of injury from crashing into the foil? Any reduced performance considerations?
Are there other foil manufacturers adopting other similar safety features?

I don't know about kite foiling, but I have owned several of the slingshot foils (Hoverglide and Phantasm) for winging and windsurf foiling and chose them primarily for the relatively blunt and swept down wingtips for safety.
I imagine a thin sharp wing tip is more efficient hydrodynamically, but safety is more important to me. I won't name names, but it amazes me how some of the other brands have super thin sharp wing tips that are angled up towards the rider - an accident waiting to happen in my opinion. |

Yep, I shaved the tips off my T****** 1210 and notice no performance differences... at the advice of the shop that sold it to me, no less. Maybe some hydrodynamics software somewhere said they were a good idea... |

I'm not too sure on the performance side of things, but I can tell you I took the 633 phantasm front wing with the winglets straight to the waist (just above the important bits) and I got a hell of a bruise that I'm quite sure would've been much worse with a sharp tip!
Don't ask how I crashed on my wing like that, but I did and it hurt like hell! Fairly certain I would've been impaled with a pointy tip version. _________________ "I don't believe in doing work that I don't want to do in order to live a life that I don't want to live."
