I want to add some stainless swivels to my leashes. What load in lbs would be more than enough to handle a wing getting ripped out of hand by strong gorge winds? Looking for something better than overkill or a guess….
Thanks
Eric

I have been using these for a couple of years with zero failures in fresh and salt water with no corrosion, 550# test. I also setup a static drop test, I can't remember exactly what I did but it was pretty violent. I think I did 10 lbs from 4 feet. It snapped some old 500 pound Q power kite line so I repeated it with 1/4" spectra and the swivel was fine. The load was way more than I would ever expect from a wing especially with a bungy leash.
If you take apart a typical surf leash the swivel looks identical to these.

Eric, if you learned how to fid a Brummel loop with dyneema back in the day when we were trying to kill ourselves with shackles those skills will come in handy 😀 I fid a loop around the eye of the swivel to attach it to my bungy leash FYI, I think NSI might be making something similar now.

North Shore Inc in HR has swivels exactly like the picture above except they've got a 2" spliced loop on each end so they are easy to connect to most kite leashes. I think one or two shops in town also carry them.

Second through 4th about 15 min each.

Next non-windy day.... make a hundred.... sell them out of the back of your van down by the river. I'll buy 1 or 2.
