The reef break is not surfable - the surfing goes down in the several passageways from the open ocean into the atolls. Here's an example of Avarua passage where we spotted locals surfing and another passage we got off the dive boat. Good size wind swell hitting the reef. Epic surfing during their winter months, ie our summer.
