There were some crazy waves ridden that historic day. Here is one that looks like a fire breathing dragon.

In `94 I took a job in silicon valley and had the opportunity to go out here on my neighbor's commercial crab fishing boat (docked in Half Moon Bay). Steve was a lifelong Santa Cruz surfer and underwater demolition expert and he called me early one Sunday morning and dragged me out there to watch - and listen - that thing is loud! It was before the whole K2 thing grew it to insanity so it wasn't very crowded, and I have a bunch of pictures that I still haven't figured out how to transfer off the old memory card format. An experience I'll never forget being in awe of this thing, and these people. Sadly Mark Foo died there not too long after (days or weeks later).
(Another time, more recently, I met Jeff Clarke at Third Avenue and he's a really cool, humble dude).
